Massive flames erupted from a south suburban fire house sparked by a power line that was blown down during intense storms on Tuesday.
Flames engulfed a house near Pepperwood Court and West Wintergreen Drive in south suburban Frankfort after strong winds pushed a power line onto the home, authorities said.
Massive flames could be seen rising from the roof of the home as crews fought the blaze.
The home was a total loss, authorities said, but no one was hurt.
Major damage to the roof and a partially collapsed second floor could be seen as crews continued spraying hot spots in the house after the flames were put out.
Wind gusts of up to 100 mph were recorded during the “intense” storms that brought threats of short-lived tornadoes and flash flooding to the region.
Another Frankfort resident, Jean Miller, shared video captured by her Ring camera of a possible tornado spinning up debris as damaging storms blew through the area.
The storms left damage and trees down across the Chicago area and northwest Indiana, prompted a ground stop at O’Hare and Midway airports, and cut power for more than half a million ComEd and NIPSCO customers — including the entire town of Schererville, Indiana.
