Sir Rod Stewart was forced to wave off a second consecutive show this week when he canceled his planned gig in Cleveland. The cancellation came less than 24 hours after Stewart postponed his planned Sunday night (Aug. 9) gig at the Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati due to what the venue said was an “unforeseen but minor medical procedure that required prompt attention.”
Cleveland’s Rocket Arena posted a statement about tonight’s cancellation, writing, “Following a period of monitoring, doctors have advised Rod Stewart to rest for at least 48 hours. As a result, his performance tomorrow night, Tuesday, August 11th at Rocket Arena in Cleveland has been canceled. Rod is disappointed to miss the show and appreciates everyone’s understanding. He looks forward to returning to the stage soon.” Refunds are available at point of purchase.
At press time, a spokesperson for Stewart had not returned Billboard‘s request for comment on the Cleveland cancellation or for an update on his medical condition.
Stewart has been on his One Last Time tour for the past year, and at press time the outing had two more scheduled dates, Aug. 14 at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines and Aug. 15 at the Morton Amphitheater in Kansas City, before the singer returns to Las Vegas for his Encore Shows residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Aug. 18.
The tour has had a few previous hiccups, including a June 19 show at Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre in West Valley City where Stewart was forced to pause the show after appearing unwell and doubling over before using an oxygen tank to assist with his breathing. Stewart also got some backlash a week earlier when he canceled a June 12 show in San Diego less than an hour before showtime due to a reported acute upper respiratory infection causing laryngitis and was then seen at the Scotland World Cup match in Boston.
Following the weeklong Vegas run, Stewart is slated to pick up his North American tour again on Sept. 1 with a gig at the Minnesota State Fair in Falcon Heights, Minn., followed by gigs at the Rivinia Festival in Illinois, a run of shows in Mexico and a double-down at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo. on Sept. 2-3.
