Wahlberg announced the news on his Instagram story, posting a behind-the-scenes photo alongside his long-time co-star and other star of the spin-off accompanied by the caption "Welcome (back) to the family! Jamie Reagan! AKA Will Estes!"
Estes starred as Jamie – the brother of Wahlberg's lead character Danny Reagan – across all 14 seasons of the police procedural from 2010 and 2024, but this will be his first appearance in the spin-off since its launch last year.
It's not been made clear at this stage how substantial Estes's role in the season will be, although Deadline has reported that it will just be for a single episode.
The series was renewed for a second run upon the concluion of its first season in December last year, and the new batch of episodes is set to begin airing on 9 October.
