Former Alabama star Andrew Pinckney made his first big-league hit one to remember by leaving the yard.
The Washington Nationals called up Pinckney on Tuesday after having to place All-Star outfielder James Wood on the IL with an oblique strain. In the top of the 4th inning of Washington’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Pinckney went opposite field, making his first MLB hit a home run.

Pinckney played at Alabama from 2020 to 2023, appearing in 167 games with 144 starts. He posted a .308 average, collecting 26 home runs, 6 triples, 32 doubles and 60 walks. Pinckney posted 101 RBs over his Crimson Tide.
Washington selected Pinckney No. 102 overall in the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He got the call to the show after appearing in 397 minor-league games, posting a .271 average with 45 home runs, 50 doubles and 8 triples. At Triple-A Rochester, Pinckney was slashing .271/.348/.408 with 25 extra-base hits and 51 RBIs.
