PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Buffalo Bills training camp continues at St. John Fisher College this week, with News10NBC’s Ian Mills speaking to kicker Tyler Bass about his recovery from last season’s injuries.

Last season, a hip and groin injury and later surgery sidelined Bass for the entire season. It was the first real injury in his six-year career.

“I mean, the body feels good. Again, a lot of work that I put in to get to this point, but we still got a lot more growing to do,” Bass said.

Veteran Matt Prater filled in for Bass last season, but he’s nowhere to be seen this year. Bass is the only kicker on the Bills roster, and he’s taking that as the team’s belief in his ability as he recovers.

“Having belief in me that they have in me gives me confidence and more belief in myself,” Bass said.

Last year, Prater wasn’t on the team’s roster until three days before Buffalo’s first game. He then hit a game-winner and played the entire year in Buffalo. Right now, the Bills believe in Bass as they look to ramp him back up after a year off.

“There was a first kick for him in college. There was a first kick for him in the NFL. There’s a first kick throughout the season. Guys have ways of getting themselves mentally and physically ready for that,” said Jeff Rodgers, special teams coordinator.

Thursday was the first day of camp that Bass kicked in front of the public, making five of seven attempts. Media was not able to record it.

“I know you guys have to see me kick once. We’ve kicked a lot before that. So we’re excited now. Can’t wait,” Bass said.
