ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The construction season has returned to the Rochester region. Here’s what to know about some projects this summer that may interrupt your commute.
Rush-Mendon/Victor-Mendon Road
Part of Rush-Mendon/Victor-Mendon Road will be reduced to one lane starting on Saturday, Aug. 8, for a paving project. The lane closure is happening from West Henrietta Road to Pittsford-Mendon Road/Mendon-Ionia Road from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
The work is expected to run through Aug. 15. Flagging personnel will be there to direct traffic. The Department of Transportation says drivers should expect delays and take a different route if necessary.
South Clinton Avenue in Brighton
Part of South Clinton Avenue in Brighton will close from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15 for storm sewer crossing replacements. The road will be shut down between Rue De Ville and Havens Road. The Monroe County Department of Transportation is asking drivers to avoid the area while the project is underway.
West Henrietta Road in Henrietta
Part of West Henrietta Road in Henrietta is reduced to one lane in each direction for a paving project. The lane closures are happening between East River and Crittenden roads from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily.
The project is expected to be complete by Friday, Aug. 7. The work will begin at East River Road and move southward. The Department of Transportation is urging drivers to slow down in the work zone.
Lehigh Station Road in Henrietta
Part of Lehigh Station Road in Henrietta is closed for a pavement rehabilitation project. The work is expected to continue through Friday, Aug. 14.
The road will be closed east of West Henrietta Road. The Department of Transportation says it will post detours using State Route 15, Calkins Road, Hylan Drive, and I-390.
Scribner Road in Penfield
Drivers can expect possible lane closures for part of Scribner Road in Penfield while roadwork is underway. There will be paving on Tuesday, Aug. 18, and Wednesday, Aug. 19.
The roadwork is happening between Atlantic Avenue and Embury Road. The Town of Penfield is reminding drivers in the area to use caution and follow signs. The work schedule may change based on weather and equipment availability.
Calkins Road in Henrietta
There’s a one-way detour for people traveling on Calkins Road, between Pinnacle Road and Hartwood Drive. Any westbound traffic won’t be allowed on this part of Calkins and will follow a posted detour using Lehigh Station Road and East Henrietta Road. This will be in place until Friday, Aug. 28.
The Monroe County Department of Transportation says this detour will help crews work more safely and efficiently. The DOT also says it will help shorten the overall project and reduce the amount of time traffic is affected.
Stone Street in Rochester
Stone Street from East Broad Street to East Main Street will be closed until Friday, Aug. 7. It will be closed as it undergoes roadway, sidewalk, and curb construction. The work is in conjunction with the Stone Street reconstruction. To learn more, click here.
Route 5 in Stafford
State Route 5 in Stafford, Genesee County, is reduced to a single lane for a culvert replacement project. There will be alternating traffic over Black Creek.
The state Department of Transportation says the roadwork is expected to be completed by Sept. 1. Until then, traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals.
Seneca Avenue traffic delays
Part of Seneca Avenue in Rochester has been reduced to a one-way southbound street for a paving project. The lane reduction is happening from Route 104 West and East Ridge Road through December.
Within the work zone, parking will be restricted on Seneca Avenue. Drivers are asked to take alternative routes. The project involves pavement reconstruction, curb and sidewalk replacement, new driveway aprons, curb ramp upgrades, street lighting improvements, new pavement markings, and updated road signage. Ongoing project for I-590 in Brighton
The Department of Transportation’s $51.5 million project to repair and replace bridges on I-590 in Brighton is now underway. You can see our reporting on the project here.
It’s expected to last through December 2028, with crews replacing bridges over Monroe Avenue built in the mid-1960s. The project also aims to provide access to the Rochester airport and the State Thruway.
During construction, one of the three lanes of I-590 will be closed in both directions. In addition, both the 590 South entrance ramp from Monroe Avenue and the 590 South exit ramp to Monroe Avenue will be closed.
There may also be temporary road and shoulder closures along Monroe Avenue, Allens Creek Road, and some ramps during the project. The DOT will keep drivers updated on closures with signs.
