Six Flags Great America in suburban Gurnee will soon debut a new “woodsy-themed family area,” with nine attractions in total including three new rides, “reimagined” fan favorites and the Midwest’s “longest, tallest and fastest suspended family coaster.”

The new Camp Timber Trail will be located in the park’s Yukon Territory and is expected to open in 2027. According to a release, the new family adventure area will be the amusement park’s “first step in a multi-year transformation.”

“Since opening in 1976, Yukon Territory has been home to some of the park’s most cherished memories,” said John Krajnak, Six Flags Great America president said in the announcement. “With Camp Timber Trail, we’re making a significant investment in family experiences, preserving the playful spirit that has defined this area for decades while introducing exciting new ways to explore and create traditions together.

Other parts of the 300-acre theme park are also being updated, the release said, including enhancements to landscaping, walkways and guest amenities. Over the next five years, visitors can expect to see “beautification efforts and property-wide improvements” as the transformation continues.

“Camp Timber Trail is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the park’s story,” the release said.

In addition to three new attractions and four “reimagined” favorites, Camp Timber Trail will also be home to iconic park rides Little Dipper and Loggers Run. Here’s a break down of what else the new area will include:

New family roller coaster

Sky Hawk, set to be the Midwest’s “longest, tallest and fastest suspended family coaster” will be the “signature experience” of the new area.

“Sky Hawk will send riders soaring through treetops on an exhilarating flight that combines thrills with stunning views of the woodland landscape below,” the release said.

Additional new attractions include a Trail Trotters animal trek, and new outdoor playground dubbed Forest Grove Play Park.

‘Reimagined Fan Favorite Rides‘The new area will also include updates to fan-favorite rides “through enhanced theming, elevated storytelling and refreshed identities.”

Chirp Chaser(formerly Sprocket Rockets): Young campers will soar on this family coaster as they journey through the wilderness on a bird-themed flight. Wilderness Wagon(formerly Crazy Bus): Guests can climb aboard a rustic wagon for a playful ride through the great outdoors. Creek Cruiser(formerly Yahoo River): Set sail on a relaxing boat ride inspired by the natural beauty of the wilderness. Bee Boppin’(formerly Buzzy Beez): This beloved family attraction returns with new theming while retaining the classic fun generations of guests have enjoyed.
