Party in the Park

The 29th season of Party in the Park continues on Thursday with a headline show from Smash Mouth, the multi-platinum group with hits like “All Star” and “I’m a Believer.” The band has sold millions of records and has been used in film soundtracks, including the Shrek franchise.

Sophistafunk, a band known for their blend of funk, hip hop, and dance music, will open the show. The summer concert series takes place every Thursday at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park through Aug. 13. There will also be a special Friday performance on Aug. 14 featuring Almost Queen.

Gates open at 5 p.m. for the Cantina area, 6 p.m. for the rest of the venue, and performances begin at 6:30 p.m. This year’s lineup includes both nationally touring artists and local artists across multiple genres.

General admission is $7, and children 12 and under get in free. You can get tickets online here, in-person at the Auditorium Theater on East Main Street, or at the gate. Clarissa Street Legacy Comic Book Project

The Clarissa Street Legacy is hosting two community events on Thursday, giving the public a preview of the new Clarissa Street Legacy Comic Book Project.

Youth creators and artists will introduce original comic characters inspired by Clarissa Street at the comic book preview. Following that, members of the Clarissa Street Legacy Committee will join “The Everyday People Show with Radical Rashad” for a live radio broadcast.

The comic book preview will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at 740 University Ave. and the Clarissa Street Reunion Radio Takeover will follow from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The annual event celebrates the neighborhood that was a hub of Black-owned businesses and music in the 1950s.

Community members can attend the reunion event from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, on Clarissa St. The reunion will feature a full day of food. Attendees can also experience live music on three stages.

Hochstein High Falls Concert

The Hochstein School and WXXI’s lunchtime concert series continues on Thursday at Granite Mills Park in the High Falls District. The free concert begins at 12:10 p.m., and it aims to bring together workers, neighbors, and visitors in downtown Rochester.

Tyler Westcott & Friends will perform. Parking is available at the High Falls Parking Garage. The concert series kicked off on June 11 and runs through Saturday, Aug. 8, with a celebration of the 90th birthday of Alan Harris, a longtime teacher and cellist.
