Ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League season, we have identified one player from each club who could potentially have a breakout season.
Every season has its own crop of young players who make a name for themselves or emerge as first-team options, and the 2026-27 Premier League season will be no different.
Last season, we backed the likes of Shea Lacey, Rio Ngumoha to make an impact, and every single one of them heads into 2026-27 as a viable option at senior level at the very least (though Mané hasn’t yet earned a move back to the Premier League from relegated Wolves).
So, who do we think might make a similar impression this season?
To be completely clear, “potential breakout player” has a fairly loose definition. They do not have to come from their club’s academy, they simply have to be a young footballer with limited prior top-level experience who we feel could develop significantly this season. For some, that development might mean becoming a regular starter; for others it’ll be pushing into the senior team for the first time.
ArsenalMarli Salmon
You were expecting Max Dowman, weren’t you? He’s old news by now (and as mentioned, we picked him last year), so instead we’re going to look at someone four months older than him.
Much like the fish of the same name, Veljko Milosavljevic could be the man to claim it.
Milosavljevic joined the Cherries last summer from Crvena Zvezda. Although he didn’t feature prominently on the pitch, making just seven appearances in all competitions, he has had time to settle into life in England, which could prove advantageous this season.
The 19-year-old is clearly a promising defender. He made more clearances than any other Bournemouth player on his Premier League debut in September, before going on to make his full international debut for Serbia in October 2025.
Marco Rose may want more experience at centre-back, especially given how youthful some of Bournemouth’s other central defensive options are, but Milosavljevic will hope to take another step forward in 2026-27.
BrentfordAntoni Milambo
The 2025-26 campaign proved a difficult introduction to English football for Kai Andrews.
The 19-year-old midfielder made 10 appearances for Coventry last campaign before joining Hibernian on loan.
While Andrews failed to make his mark in Scotland, he ended the campaign on a high as he made his first start for Wales in a friendly against Romania.
He acquitted himself well in the match, making nine passes in the final third, the third most of any player, and winning two fouls; Neco Williams (3) was the only Welsh player to win more.
Andrews will need to decide whether to stay at Coventry and fight for a place in the team or go back out on loan for regular minutes.
Crystal PalaceJoél Drakes-Thomas
Tyrique George looked promising at Chelsea, but his first few months at Everton after initially joining on loan in February was something of a settling-in period, as he started just one game for David Moyes’ side.
With a full pre-season on Merseyside under his belt, George could burst into life during the 2026-27 season.
Quick, dynamic and eager to run at full-backs, George could be the one to benefit most from Jack Grealish returning to Manchester City after a loan spell with the Toffees.
During the 2024-25 UEFA Conference League, a competition in which George started regularly for Chelsea, he completed 1.65 dribbles per 90, ranking him fifth among Chelsea players.
He has started three of Everton’s four pre-season friendlies in the absence of Iliman Ndiaye, who is reportedly the subject of interest from abroad.
With Grealish gone and Dwight McNeil dropping down the pecking order last season, George need only reach out and take his opportunity.
FulhamFarhaan Ali-Wahid
At 19 years of age, Farhaan Ali-Wahid will be looking to make his senior debut for Fulham this season, and if he can replicate the form he showed for the club’s Under-21s last season, he could make an impact.
He signed his first professional contract with the Whites last summer and went on to score 10 goals in PL2 in the 2025-26 campaign. The left winger also added seven assists, proving he could create as well as find the net himself.
Only Chelsea’s Shumaira Mheuka (19) and Liverpool’s Kieran Morrison (18) recorded more goal involvements than Ali-Wahid (17) in PL2 last season, while just 10 players created more chances from open play than his 26. He was nominated for the PL2 Player of the Season award.
Ali-Wahid played the second half of Fulham’s 2-0 friendly loss to Norwich City last month, replacing Kevin, before also coming off the bench against Al-Ahli and Farense, so new boss Álvaro Arbeloa is getting a good look at him ahead of the new campaign.
Hull CityCharlie Hughes
Being a newly promoted team, one could argue that nearly every Hull City player could potentially become a breakout star, but Ryan McAidoo has shone.
The winger impressed in the PL2 last season, with only Reigan Heskey (15) registering more goal involvements than him (12) among Manchester City players.
McAidoo made his first-team debut for City last campaign, and he marked the occasion by scoring the ninth goal in City’s 10-1 drubbing of Exeter City in the FA Cup.
More recently, the 18-year-old caught the eye with his one-v-one ability in City’s pre-season friendly against Inter, completing two dribbles, the joint-second most of anyone on the pitch. He also had the second-most touches in the opposition’s box (13).
Enzo Maresca raved about McAdioo’s performance after the game, calling him “the type of winger I love”.
With a rotation spot on the wing potentially up for grabs at the Etihad, McAidoo is well placed to take it.
Newcastle UnitedPark Seung-soo
For all the good he did at Newcastle, there’s certainly a perception among some supporters that Eddie Howe could’ve done more to bring young talent through.
Now he’s gone and Newcastle are in a transition period, there are several young players at the club who might fancy their chances of getting opportunities to step up.
Nilson Angulo reportedly cost an initial £15m in January and is already 23 years old, we think we can still just about suggest him as a potential breakout player for this season.
After joining from Anderlecht in the winter, Angulo’s impact at Sunderland wasn’t exactly explosive. There were flashes of his flair, but he was clearly still pretty raw.
Nevertheless, those first few months will have been important from an adaptation perspective, and now, following a fairly encouraging World Cup with Ecuador, he’ll be expected to kick on.
There’s certainly an abundance of ability in him, and he has an athletic build which should help him once his game has been refined a little more.
