A supernatural thriller that's also concerned with themes around inheritance, cultural identity and Jamaica's colonial past, it's a five-parter that is practically bursting at the seams with wider themes and important messaging.
How did the show ensure it wasn't reducing these cultural practices to a mere plot point, though? "I really didn’t want to fall into Hollywood voodoo trope, which people have done before," series creator and writer Karla Crome tells Radio Times for Pass the Mic.
Crome went on: "But she comes at it from an outside point of view and then discovers that she’s looking at it from an inside point of view, if that makes sense. I love it, I love the culture. We had an amazing cultural advisor, Dr Stines, who told us so much and I read so much.
With the series digging into history as well as the present day, there's plenty of room to play with as a writer. When asked whether it was fun to craft those scarier scenes in the thriller, Crome said: "Absolutely. Because you let your imagination be limitless then.
