The threat of rain could begin as early as late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, as scattered showers and thunderstorms could develop in Iowa and push into the region in the coming hours, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.

Another round of showers and storms could develop in time for the Wednesday morning commute in the Chicago area, and yet another round could occur in the afternoon and early evening, according to forecast models.

On Wednesday, parts of the Chicago area to the west and south of the city are under a “marginal” risk of severe weather, with damaging wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and localized flooding possible. There is also a non-zero risk of tornadoes associated with those storms.

Scattered showers could even persist into the morning hours of Thursday, with high temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday settling right around 80 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to warm slightly into the low-80s on Friday and then into the weekend, but another round of showers and thunderstorms could potentially fire up late Friday night and especially on Saturday morning, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.

More rounds of showers and storms are possible on Sunday and then even into next week, with the pattern finally potentially drying out by the middle of next week, along with cooler temperatures dropping into the mid-to-upper 70s.
