It’s looking more like a possibility and Sean Payton said he’ll see Hill at the Hall of Fame.
This weekend, Drew Brees will be inducted into the Hall and Payton will present him in front of the crowd.
Denver Broncos signing Taysom Hill is gathering steam
On Saturday, Payton told Steve Wyche that he’ll talk with Hill this weekend.
Last week it was announced by the Saints that Hill wouldn’t be returning to New Orleans for a 10th season.
That opened the door for another team to sign the quarterback/tight end/running back. Back in 2020 and 2022, Hill was at his best, scoring 9 touchdowns each year. He also had 457 rushing yards in 2020, and a career-high 575 rushing yards in 2022.
But that production diminished in 2025. He ran 52 times for a mere 114 yards. That was good for a career-low 2.2 yards per carry. He also had only 11 receptions for 91 yards, for a decent 8.3 yards per reception.
His numbers were so low that Pro Football Focus didn’t give him an overall nor a receiving grade for 2025.
So, would it be worth the Broncos signing Taysom Hill?
On one hand, he could be that “joker” everyone’s been asking Payton about since last offseason. RJ Harvey emerged as that player—a multifaceted runner and receiver—but Hill is the ultimate “joker” in Payton’s offense.
On the other hand, the former Saints star is a shadow of his former self.
What can Hill bring to the Broncos offense?
If Denver were to bring in Taysom Hill, Payton, Davis Webb and the other coaches would have to deliberate and decide what he can actually bring to the team.
Hill is extremely versatile and can play three different positions. Although, it should be noted he only threw 10 passes the last two years combined. As a runner and tight end, he can do a lot on the field and Payton loves tricky type plays.
Of note, he put Marvin Mims in the backfield with some success each of his first three years with the Broncos. Mims’ best rushing effort came last season, with 12 rushes for 78 yards and one touchdown.
Personally, I’d rather Mims—one of the fastest players in the NFL—or Harvey getting snaps running the ball over soon-to-be 36-year old Hill.
A few years ago, adding Hill would’ve been possibly exciting. But the Broncos already improved and secured their offense going into the 2026 season.
Jaylen Waddle is now the No. 1 receiver, Courtland Sutton moves to No. 2 and everyone else moves down a slot in the group. Running back improved with the drafting of Jonah Coleman and J.K. Dobbins is determined to not get injured this year. Plus Harvey will be in Year 2. And at tight end, Evan Engram has a lot to prove while the Broncos re-signed three other players at the position.
They’d likely have to cut one of those tight ends to fit Hill onto the roster, all to get a few handfuls of plays out of him for the entire season.
However, we know Payton loves trick plays.
It came out a few weeks ago in Seth Wickersham’s piece that the Broncos were going to run a fake punt in the Divisional Round win over the Bills but it got checked at the line. He also elevated Caleb Lohner to the active for that same game to make Buffalo key in on the 6’7″ tight end a bit.
And we all know how much Payton loves his guys. So, Taysom Hill to the Denver Broncos remains a distinct possibility.
