The Chicago White Sox were busy in the run-up to the MLB trade deadline, acquiring several new players as they bolstered their roster.
The White Sox are hoping to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2021, and as they prepare for the stretch run they added pieces to their bullpen and to their lineup for the season’s closing weeks.
In one final move before the deadline, the White Sox acquired catcher Joey Bart from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for pitcher Duncan Davitt.
Bart has appeared in 41 games this season with the Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates, and has hit four home runs and driven in 13 RBI’s, with a .226 batting average.
Davitt, who was designated for assignment by the White Sox Monday, has appeared in 21 games with Triple-A Charlotte, with a 6.22 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 59 innings.
Included in that trade was the decision by the White Sox to designate outfielder Everson Pereira for assignment.
The White Sox also made an addition to their outfield, acquiring Brenton Doyle from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for prospects Mason Adams and Carlos Vielma.
Doyle has appeared in 45 games for the Rockies this season, with five doubles, five RBI’s and nine stolen bases in 129 plate appearances. He’s slashing .214/.287/.282 on the year.
He won two Gold Gloves for the Rockies in 2023 and 2024.
Adams has appeared in 14 total games in the minor leagues for the White Sox this season, with most of those appearances coming in Triple-A Charlotte. He has a 3.86 ERA in those games, with 48 strikeouts in 49 innings.
Vielma has been playing for the team’s Dominican league squad, with a home run and 21 RBI’s to go along with a .337 batting average in 134 total plate appearances.
Late Sunday night, the White Sox acquired relief pitcher Huascar Brazobán from the New York Mets in exchange for pitchers Gabe Davis and Zach Franklin.
The 36-year-old pitcher has been solid for the Mets this season, posting a 2.56 ERA in 46 appearances, including six starts. He has 49 strikeouts and has yielded just three home runs in 52.2 innings of work, with a 1.01 WHIP on the season.
Davis, a fifth-round pick of the White Sox in the 2025 MLB Draft, has struggled a bit in 18 starts this season at single-A and Double-A, with a 5.81 ERA and an 0-5 record in those games. Still, he has 70 strikeouts in 62 innings, and is hopeful he can turn things around as he heads to a new organization.
Franklin has spent this season at Triple-A Charlotte, with a 2-2 record and a 4.37 ERA in 33 appearances. He has 60 strikeouts in 45.1 innings of work for the Knights.
Before the deadline, the White Sox had also struck on Saturday when they acquired pitcher Luis Castillo from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for reliever Seranthony Dominguez, catching prospect Boston Smith and outfielder Nolan Jones, along with cash considerations.
The White Sox will be back in action Tuesday when they take on the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Tuesday.
