PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Buffalo Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins is entering his 10th NFL season with a fresh perspective under new leadership.

This is Dawkins’ first season not being coached by Sean McDermott, so he had one simple request for new coach Joe Brady. “I told Brady, like I said, please, just keep it fun. You know, like, to get the best version of me, I gotta be able to not be fully grown. Please allow me to just be free and just be, try to stay a kid as long as possible,” Dawkins said.
Dawkins said this camp specifically he feels he’s been himself more than others. News10NBC’s Ian Mills profiled how the Buffalo mainstay is keeping things fresh in year 10.
“I am myself, like I’m Dion, but I’m still, you know, Dion, in its own world, right? Like I’m Dion, and it’s like, Dion Dawkins,” he said.
But it isn’t about Joe Brady or Sean McDermott. It’s about teammate CJ Gardner-Johnson.
“Just another Tasmanian devil, you know, that’s him. You know, and I love that, I love that,” Dawkins mentioned.
The light-hearted left tackle admitted it’s been challenging this camp as the left guard position, the one next to him on the line, goes through a competition. “I’ve had a different guard next to me almost every single year of my career, and still been one of the best left tackles in the NFL,” he said.
Whether it’s Alec Anderson or Austin Corbett lining up to his right, the only goal ahead is the one thing this team hasn’t won.
“Don’t let the wall hit you. You hit the wall and go through the wall. Then the other side, as we know, is that Lombardi Trophy,” Dawkins explained.
Practice will continue for the Bills on Tuesday.
