The Chicago Cubs are still making moves ahead of the MLB trade deadline, reportedly acquiring reliever Ryan Zeferjahn from the Los Angeles Angels.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Cubs will add Zeferjahn to their bullpen for the stretch run, as the team looks to secure a playoff berth for the second consecutive season.
In 45 total appearances this season, Zeferjahn has a 3.66 ERA and a 4-3 record, racking up 75 strikeouts in 51.2 innings of work.
He also has recorded four saves for the Angels during the season and has six in his three MLB seasons.
According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, Cubs catcher Moises Ballesteros will head to the Angels in the deal.
Ballesteros showed flashes of potential with the Cubs in 79 appearances, with eight home runs and 34 RBI’s for the North Siders in parts of the last two seasons, but he was demoted to Triple-A Iowa after slashing .231/.303/.385 for the Cubs in 175 plate appearances this season, with a WAR of just 0.2 in 59 games.
