GATES, N.Y. — The Town of Gates is formally demanding better service from Waste Management as complaints over missed and delayed trash pickups continue.
Town Supervisor Cosmo Giunta says he’s sent a formal letter demanding immediate improvements. He says if service doesn’t improve by Sept. 1, the town board could review Waste Management’s license and decide not to let the company continue operating in Gates next year.
Last week, News10NBC Investigative Reporter Jennifer Lewke spoke with Waste Management customers who have had delayed trash pickups.
One man in Greece told Lewke he scheduled a bulk pickup with Waste Management on May 12, but it is still all sitting on the curb.
“They took my bulk pickup request and it’s been moved week to week, sometimes two weeks at a time, right up until now,” Griswold says.
In a statement to Lewke, Waste Management said “WM is dedicated to taking care of our customers, and we are working on solutions to resolve service delays due largely to temporary staffing issues.”
