The Chicago White Sox continue to bolster their roster ahead of the MLB trade deadline, acquiring reliever Huascar Brazobán from the New York Mets.
The deal was first reported overnight by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, and the White Sox made it official Monday morning, with the MLB trade deadline arriving at 5 p.m. Central time Monday.
The 36-year-old pitcher has been solid for the Mets this season, posting a 2.56 ERA in 46 appearances, including six starts. He has 49 strikeouts and has yielded just three home runs in 52.2 innings of work, with a 1.01 WHIP on the season.
He figures to slot into a bullpen that just lost Seranthony Dominguez in a Saturday trade that brought starting pitcher Luis Castillo to the South Side, and the team will hope he can give them an additional boost as they try to defend their lead in the American League Central.
In exchange, the White Sox sent pitchers Gabe Davis and Zach Franklin to the Mets to complete the deal.
Davis, a fifth-round pick of the White Sox in the 2025 MLB Draft, has struggled a bit in 18 starts this season at single-A and Double-A, with a 5.81 ERA and an 0-5 record in those games. Still, he has 70 strikeouts in 62 innings, and is hopeful he can turn things around as he heads to a new organization.
Franklin has spent this season at Triple-A Charlotte, with a 2-2 record and a 4.37 ERA in 33 appearances. He has 60 strikeouts in 45.1 innings of work for the Knights.
The White Sox are off Monday, and will be back in action Tuesday when they face the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, with first pitch set for 6:10 p.m.
