IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — Neighbors on Hurstbourne Road in Irondequoit celebrated their 50th annual block party Saturday, marking both a half-century tradition and America’s 250th anniversary.

“With the first block party was in 1976, the United States 200th anniversary, and here we are 250. So, we decided to marry those two things together: our 50th anniversary for the block party and the country’s birthday as well,” said Scott Conderman.
“They were wonderful neighbors, all of them. They would do anything for you, and we sympathized, too,” said Betty Collier Biehler.
The annual gathering brought together residents for a day of community festivities. The event has been a neighborhood tradition for five decades.
“Well I think it shows pride. I think it shows continuation from generation to generation. That shows that there’s a certain American kind of value that’s centered,” Alan Balkin added.
“It’s nice to know that there’s like little communities in Rochester where they all come out of their houses in order to be together,” said Rob Healey.
This year’s celebration held special significance as it coincided with the nation’s 250th birthday.
