ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After yesterday’s cloudy and at times drizzly weather, we’re finally treated to a nice day just in time for the end of the workweek. Skies will stay clear today with highs around 80 degrees and tolerable humidity.
Saturday a cold front will be approaching from the northwest with clouds ahead of it and a small chance of rain. We should stay MAINLY dry however, but we won’t escape the clouds. Highs will be a little warmer in the low 80s.
Sunday we’re tracking chances for some ugly weather… Ahead of the cold front, plentiful moisture will converge and ascend, and combined with some instability and stronger southwesterly flow there will be areas of heavy rain and some thunder. Since our last forecast, there is more uncertainty in the placement of the heaviest rain, with some models suggesting any concerning amounts will stay out of our area to the west, so we’ll keep it Green on the Threat Tracker until the higher resolution, short term models come in which will give us a better idea as per our chances for any flash flooding. The strength of any thunderstorms that form within the rain will depend on just how unstable the atmosphere gets, which is also uncertain at this time. All in all, know that Sunday will likely be wet. Much better to do anything outdoors on Saturday.
The cold front will then pass through during the day Monday, with more showers likely in the morning before clearing in the afternoon. Depending on how much rain falls Sunday, this may produce additional chances of flash flooding. Behind the cold front comes drier weather on Tuesday before more chances for rain by the middle of the week, with chances possibly lasting through the rest of the week. And throughout this whole time, temperatures should stay near average. No sweltering summer heat in sight, yet!
