Australia topped the final medal table with 37 gold medals over the course of the six day meet, and with the addition of the country’s 16 silver medals and 23 bronze medals, the Aussies are going home with a whopping 76 medals to their name.
Australia swept the relay events in Glasgow, winning all eight races to boost the team’s gold count. Not to be stopped at just clinching the title in the relays, the Aussies also set new Commonwealth Games records in six of the events: the men’s and women’s 4×100 medley relay, men’s 4×200 free relay, men’s 4×100 free relay, mixed 4×100 medley relay and mixed 4×100 free relay.
In addition to dominating the relays, Australia swept the top three spots in five individual events, putting three swimmers on the medal podium in the men’s 50 free, 400 free and 800 free and the women’s 50 free and 100 free.
Landing in second in the medal table rankings with six gold medals was South Africa, whose campaign was highlighted by Pieter Coetze winning the men’s 100 back in a new Commonwealth Games record time.
Close behind South Africa in the gold medal tally were Scotland (5) and England (4). While England had the second-most total medals after Australia, taking home 26 at the end of the competition, the vast majority of those came in the silver (12) and bronze (10) colors.
The small island of Jersey landed itself in the middle of the medal table with two pieces of hardware, both courtesy of Filip Nowacki. Eighteen-year-old Nowacki won gold in the men’s 200 breast and claimed silver in the 100 breast, making him Jersey’s most successful Commonwealth Games athlete in history.
Nowacki’s victory in the 200 breast also marked Jersey’s first Commonwealth gold in any sport since 1990.
Meanwhile, Wales made significant strides since the last Commonwealth Games in 2022, tripling its medal count from four years ago. The Welsh delegation walked away from the 2026 Commonwealth Games with three silver and three bronze medals.
