The 20-year-old posted a time of 30.80, which shaves .09 seconds off the country’s reigning breaststroke queen Jessica Vall, who posted a 30.89 at the 2019 Spanish Championships.
Prior to this meet, Vall held all three long course breaststroke records and the 100 and 200 in short course. Ramos holds the 50 in short course as well, with a 29.73 from 2022.
Ramos is a rising junior at Ohio State. At the 2026 NCAA Championships, she finished 6th in the 100 yard breaststroke (57.99) and 26th in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:09.61). That 100 yard swim capped off a brilliant sophomore campaign where she went from a best of 59.99 to 57.95.
In the midst of that season, she also posted her previous best time of 30.91 at the US Open in December, so the record was already in her sights.
She is scheduled to represent Spain at the European Championships in Paris that start in less than two weeks. It took 30.90 to medal in this event at the 2024 European Aquatics Championships, though the podium standard in the non-Olympic year will likely be faster.
That Thursday prelims time pushed Ramos into the final 5th, almost a second behind the top qualifier McKenzie Siroky of Tennessee. Finals begin at 6PM Pacific Time.
