Ilya Kharun broke his own U.S. Open and U.S. National Meet Records, winning the men’s 50 butterfly in a 22.59. Kharun broke his own US Open record of a 22.73 that he swam at last month’s Pro Series meet in Indianapolis. He also broke his own meet record of a 22.76 that he swam this morning in prelims.

The swim also marked a new lifetime best for the 21 year old as he entered the day with a best time of a 22.64 that he swam in May at the Mare Nostrum tour. He now moves up to be tied as the 6th fastest performer all-time.

Also highlighting the men’s 50 fly was Caeleb Dressel who was 2nd in a 22.86. That is Dressel’s fastest 50 fly since he swam a 22.57 to win the 2022 World Championship title.
