Lee joined Rush in 1968 after the original bassist left. He has been involved with every album the band has ever released. While the late drummer Neil Peart was the band's main lyricist, Lee did a lot of the musical composition with guitarist Alex Lifeson.

"I think in the process of attempting that, we learned it's not so easy to write something simple. It was a difficult adjustment for us."
