July 28-August 1, 2026 Ocala, Florida LCM (50 meters) Psych SheetThe first night of the 2026 YMCA Long Course National Championship featured several exciting races, all contributing to a big battle in the team standings. After one night of competition, the Upper Main Line YMCA leads the combined team scores with 283 points, with Greater Spartanburg and the YMCA of the Jersey Shore trailing just behind with totals of 252.5 and 216.5, respectively. Greater Spartanburg holds the lead in the boys’ team standings, though, as they stand 2.5 points ahead of Upper Main Line, with 149.5 points to 147. The YMCA of the Jersey Shore is currently leading the girls’ team race with 150 points, ahead of both Upper Main Line (136) and Greater Spartanburg (103). Of the three teams currently holding down the fort at the top of the standings, Upper Main Line was the highest finisher in the combined points race at the YMCA Short Course National Championship in April, coming in 3rd overall.
Starting off the first finals session of the meet was the girls’ 800 freestyle, where 15-year-old Eva Lyle from Spartanburg held off the field to touch in an impressive time of 9:06.65. Entering the meet with a personal best of 9:24.13 set only a few weeks ago, Lyle demolished that time with her performance en route to victory. Both the 2nd- and 3rd-place finishers saw big drops from their personal bests as well. Eighteen-year-old Brynn Lewis from the Phoenixville Branch YMCA touched 2nd in a time of 9:09.83, taking nearly 19 seconds off her best time, while 15-year-old Keilani Silva from Upper Main Line came in 3rd with a 10-second drop en route to a time of 9:10.87.
The boys’ 800 freestyle saw a similar story unfold as 17-year-old Kyle Burk narrowly held off the field while smashing his personal best to take the title. Burk, an LSU commit from the Kennett & Jennersville Area YMCAs, finished in a time of 8:19.13, taking almost 15 seconds off his personal best from last year’s Y Nationals (8:33.62). Just behind Burk, 15-year-old Charlie Brown from York & York County YMCA repeated his placement from the 2025 National Championship in much faster fashion, throwing down an 8-second personal best of 8:19.60. Seventeen-year-old Harrison McClure from the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA finished 3rd in 8:31.42, slicing five seconds off his best time as well.
A bit of drama unfolded in both the girls’ 200 butterfly and boys’ 50 breaststroke finals. In the girls’ 200 butterfly final, top seed and defending champion Serena Dickey looked poised to repeat after taking the top seed in prelims. However, after winning the final in a time of 2:16.00, she was disqualified from the race.
In her place, YMCA of the Triangle Area’s Aubrey Mitchell ended up winning the event by over a second in a time of 2:16.62. The Emory University commit sliced nearly two seconds off her personal best of 2:18.57, which was set just back in May. A pair of 16-year-olds finished 2nd and 3rd. Claire Burns from Spartanburg hit the wall second in a time of 2:17.75, also taking over two seconds off her personal best, while Joelle Van Duzer from the Greater Holyoke YMCA touched in 3rd with a time of 2:18.85.
A similar story played out in the boys’ 50 breaststroke, as initially it appeared that South Shore YMCA’s Cullen Cashman won the title in a time of 29.02, just edging out a tight field. However, he was then disqualified as well, leaving 16-year-old Adam Barlow from the Bethlehem YMCA as the champion with his 29.05 performance. Barlow managed to hold off a charging field, with only about a half-second separating the top six finishers, led by Upper Main Line’s Sebastian Tith (29.15) and Spartanburg’s Owen Harmon (29.36).

The boys’ 200 butterfly was highlighted by Carter Smith’s 2:03.95 performance for the victory. Smith cut over two seconds off his entry time with his swim, as the Somerset County YMCA swimmer upheld his number-one overall seed. William Rees of York finished 2nd with a time of 2:05.30, with Wilton’s Evan VanVelzor coming in just behind in 2:05.93.
Sixteen-year-old Morgan Mindrebo put together a strong performance to take the top spot in the girls’ 50 breaststroke, swimming to a time of 32.55. The West Morris Area YMCA swimmer managed to hold off a charging Emma Price from Jersey Shore. Coming in just behind Mindrebo, Price finished in a time of 32.77 for second, while Alexia Davies touched in third in a time of 32.79.
Both of the top finishers in the girls’ 100 freestyle dipped under 58 seconds, led by Powel Crosley Jr. YMCA’s Isabelle Schroeder in an impressive 57.21. The 19-year-old Eastern Carolina commit sliced over a second off her best time with her swim. Behind her, Hania Jernigan from the Hamilton Area YMCA also cut almost a second off her best time, touching the wall in a time of 57.92 for second. The Wyckoff Family YMCA’s Taylor Leishman finished 3rd as the 16-year-old posted a time of 58.13 to round out the podium.
In the boys’ 100 freestyle, Spartanburg went 1-2 behind Jimmy Beeson and Maddex Ternes. Beeson led the field in a time of 51.39, as the BYU commit touched the wall just ahead of his teammate Ternes, who came into the wall in a time of 51.90. From the outside lane in the final, though, it was almost Domingo Gatti who played spoiler. Gatti charged to the wall in 51.94 to take 3rd overall in the final.
The YMCA of the Jersey Shore claimed the top spot in the girls’ 200 medley relay to solidify its stance atop the girls’ rankings, touching in a time of 1:56.95. The team consisting of Ava Aguanno, Emma Price, Amira Washington, and Sydney VanDeBoe managed to get to the wall over a second ahead of their competitors in impressive fashion. The Lakeland Hills Family YMCA finished 2nd (1:58.06), while the Ridley Area YMCA finished 3rd (1:59.76).
In the boys’ 200 medley relay, it was Greater Spartanburg taking the victory as the team of Maddex Ternes, Owen Hamilton, Jimmy Beeson, and Levi Smith touched over a half-second clear of the field in 1:44.05. Upper Main Line finished 2nd in 1:44.70, with Greater Somerset County just behind in 1:45.80.
