July 28-August 1, 2026 Irvine, CA — William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center LCM (50 meters) Meet Central Psych Sheet Live Results Live Stream Prelims Recaps: Day 1The 2026 US National Championships kicked off on Tuesday morning in Irvine, but besides a prelims session that featured a quartet of 47-second swims in the men’s 100 free, there were a lot of head-turning performances in the day 1 time trials as well.
That included a 1:47.06 in the 200 free from University of Virginia swimmer David King, which was part of a really good couple of sessions for the Cavalier men.
The rising junior is a member of the US National Team in the 200 back, but this 200 free is a huge leap forward for him this season. In long course, his best time coming into the year was a 1:49.03 from another time trial at last year’s National Championship meet. He then went a 1:48.67 as part of an official USA Swimming representation at the AP Race International meet, and now has dropped to 1:47.06.

He finished 9th at the NCAA Championships in 1:31.17 (he tied in prelims with Maximus Williamson but ceded the spot in finals without a swim-off, and Williamson went on to win the national championship).
The 200 free event proper conflicts with the 200 back on the US Nationals schedule, which is why King keeps swimming it in time trials.
King was part of a group of Virginia swimmers (about half of the squad) who have spent the last three weeks training at altitude at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Ryan Erisman, best known as a distance swimmer, popped a 49.16 in a 100 free time trial. He was one of a number of distance swimmers that had good results in the 100 frees on Tuesday. 15-year-old Reef McMeeking from the Lakers Swimming in Florida, the same club that produced the Erisman siblings, swam 55.09 in the 100 fly time trial.
