The two brothers, both US-UK citizens, were arrested in Florida on July 18 at London’s request. UK prosecutors are seeking to extradite them to face over 59 charges in Britain. The alleged offenses, which involve seven purported victims, are connected with rape, assault, trafficking, and “indecent images of a child and extreme pornography,” prosecutors said in a statement. The brothers’ lawyers plan to seek their release on bail while the extradition proceedings continue. A detention hearing has been scheduled for August 13.
McBride has said the Tates will vigorously oppose extradition, describing Britain’s attempt to prosecute the brothers as politically motivated and dismissing the allegations as “garbage” and “a stitch up job.”
Their defense also argued that the brothers are not a flight risk, pointing to their repeated compliance with reporting requirements in Romania, where they remain under investigation for separate allegations involving human trafficking and other offenses.
The Romanian case was returned to prosecutors due to legal and procedural irregularities, but the accusations have not been dismissed.
