NEWARK, N.Y. — A man has pleaded guilty in the deadly stabbing of a 49 year old at a home in the Village of Newark last year.
Jared Nesmith, 36, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter on Thursday. The Wayne County District Attorney’s Office says he faces 23 years in state prison and five years of supervision once he’s sentenced.
Prosecutors say Nesmith stabbed the victim, Conan Guard, at a home on Cuyler Street and hid the body near the Zurich Bog Trail in Arcadia in October. Newark Police started investigating after they got a report from someone who overheard a conversation about a person being killed and their body being hidden. New York State Police’s K9 unit was able to find the remains.
Nesmith will be sentenced on Sept. 17, and he will remain in custody.
