Miley Cyrus‘ pop coat contains many colors, and the “Flowers” singer gets to play with a number of them in the new issue of Wonderland magazine. A special edition guest-edited by Cyrus, 33, will hit select retailers and the Wonderland site beginning today (July 27).
Created in collaboration with Wonderland chief creative officer Alastair McKimm, the issue pulls together a cross-generational group of artists, collaborators, friends and family who have inspired and supported Swift over the years, including: godmother Dolly Parton, actress/director Daryl Hannah, mother Tish Cyrus-Purcell, sister Noah Cyrus, singers Kelela, Lykke Li, Sky Ferreira, Towa Bird, Suzanne Vega, Tallulah Willis, Scout Willis, Phantogram, Model/Actriz, rapper 070 Shake and more.
“Working alongside people I love and seeing an idea through from beginning to end. None of us did this because we had to. It was completely driven by desire and inspiration,” Cyrus said in a statement. “I also loved getting to champion artists I admire. Being surrounded by kind people while creating beautiful imagery at the same time is the dream.”
The issue features interviews, profiles, visual portfolios and personal archives, with a release promising that it all adds up to “a collective portrait of Cyrus through the people and ideas she has chosen to bring into conversation, while giving her a platform to champion artists whose work resonates with her. The resulting exchanges move between creativity, identity, humor, transformation, artistic independence and the importance of remaining connected to one’s instincts.” Check out a preview of the issue here.
In a statement, McKimm added, “For twenty years, Wonderland has represented the best of pop culture, so my first call was Miley. Miley has incredible instincts and loves to use her platform. Wonderland felt like an extension of that — spotlighting friends and family, new and established artists, her world. She really understands what Wonderland represents and had a very clear vision for her issue.”
The cover was shot by photographer Mario Sorrenti, with styling by McKimm and the issue also features items from Cyrus’ personal and creative archive via previously unpublished photos by Gray Sorrenti, a conversation with Hannah, looks from across the singer’s career and “She’s a Doll!,” a behind-the-scenes feature about the creation of the Barbie Signature Miley Cyrus collectible doll.
