At San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, showrunner Silka Luisa has confirmed the upcoming Prime Video series, set to be released on 25 November, will end after the upcoming singular season.
"It was really important to us that we told a tory that, in a way, is like a movie in the sense that there’s a beginning, there’s a middle, and there’s an end," she said.
"Eight episodes – I mean, eight’s my lucky number," she added. "That’s the number I would have picked, but it felt like the right amount for the story we were planning on telling."
In a world where replicants (androids so human-like in nature they are hard to spot) have spent years in hiding as Blade Runners (a specialist force intended to wipe out replicants now they're outlawed) tried to track them down, turning them into fugitives.
Set 50 years after the events of the last movie – the 2017, Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford-led Blade Runner 2049 – this futuristic Los Angeles has "been reborn... just not by humanity".
While Olwen is a replicant Blade Runner in her last days of life, Cora is fugitive who becomes a Blade Runner when times get desperate. However, when a runaway has information that could prove the entire collapse of Los Angeles, the pair have to team up to take them down.
Blade Runner 2099 will be available to watch on Prime Video from Tuesday 25 November 2026. You can sign up to Prime Video for a 30-day free trial.
