GREECE, N.Y. — On Sunday, kids in North Greece ran a lemonade stand fundraiser for veterans who suffer from PTSD.
The lemonade stand aimed to help spread awareness about the “22 a day” statistic, which refers to about 22 veterans dying by suicide per day. The stand was located at Red Spruce Lane and went from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
“We lose 22 veterans a day to PTSD-related suicides. The number’s all over the place now, but it was 22 when I started 12 years ago,” said Dave Lippa, who helped the kids.
The two kids said they did it because they wanted to help the soldiers. “We did have a family member who was in the army,” said Carter Held, who helped run the stand.
“We’ve gotten a lot of donations,” Bryce Held mentioned, who also helped run the stand.
“I think it’s great, I think it’s a wonderful thing seeing that our younger generation is showing an enthusiasm to help out our veterans that are struggling with PTSD, and trying to bring the number of PTSD-related suicides down,” Lipa added.
It’s the second year of the lemonade stand fundraiser, and the kids say they plan to do it again next year.
