News by : (The Crimson White) -

Robert Aaron Suttles, the director of content for Yea Alabama, the University’s NIL entity, was arrested in a human trafficking operation along with 14 others Thursday, according to authorities.

Suttles was arrested on charges of soliciting prostitution, as part of the operation conducted by the Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force. All arrestees were transported to the Shelby County Jail.

“We will not tolerate the victimization of vulnerable women here in Shelby County. I believe that no woman wakes up each morning and chooses to sell their bodies because they just want to,” said Lieutenant Clayton Smith, commander of the Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force in a statement. “There is always an underlying reason that they feel they have to do this to live and have no other option.”

Others arrested were Carlos Barba-Sanchez, George Brand, Steven Crews, Rodrick Hicks, Jacob Hollingsworth, Quinton Lee, Wayne Leslie, Carter Lundstrom, Arthur McClendon, Efrem Miller, Prudhvi Paladugu, Tremele Perry, Bruno Reyes and Naushad Sundrani.

Suttles was booked in jail on a $1,000 bond. All but Hollingsworth have been released from jail on bond.

“We have a duty to protect them just like any other citizen. I want to thank the investigators for their passion and work in this operation,” Smith said.

After graduating from the University in 2009, Suttles was a journalist with the Tuscaloosa News as recently as 2018, before covering Alabama and the SEC for The Athletic. Suttles returned to Tuscaloosa to join the NIL collective in 2023.

At the time of publication, all mentions of Suttles have been removed from the Yea Alabama website, including his staff bio and his name on bylines from articles he has written. He appeared on official Alabama Athletics pages as recently as Wednesday.

“The individual is suspended and is not performing any work for us. The matter involves personal conduct unconnected to any Yea Alabama business,” said a Yea Alabama spokesperson to AL.com. “A legal proceeding is pending and our internal review is ongoing, so we have no further comment.”
