In fact, in a subsequent conversation between the two men, he made his pitch of who he wanted protected, eventually boiling down a list of six to just Lyric and Jason De Puy. He had no idea he was just providing the ammo to flush out his game like a well-maintained aqueduct. With the encouragement of Angela and the newly-formed "Toolshed" alliance, Devens put both Lyric and Jason on the block. And despite Rome not being a nominee, he was still firmly in the spotlight, as Devens brought the fires of Tribal Council to the bright lights of the house, calling out his game and the people he chose to not keep safe. The immediate fallout was, for lack of a better term, pandemonium. La Trice Verrett instantly burst into tears, feeling betrayed by her close ally. Rome called Haley Thogmartin a "snarky bitch," which caused a couple of men to stand up and defend her. And that's not even considering the fact that Angela had temporarily hijacked the meeting to air her own grievances against Jason, leading to one of the most dramatic fights in recent memory. Once the dust settled and emotions were allayed, Rome and Lyric put in a tag team effort to try to survive the week intact (ironically, by pretending they were independent of one another). Devens won the Veto, and Lyric convinced him to use it on her, officially completing the backdoor invasion of Rome. The two even faked a "breakup" to seem less threatening, to mixed results. But any doubts about their connection were thrown right out the door the minute the Big Brother Senate ruled near-unanimously against Rome. In one final romantic gesture, he publicly declared his love for Lyric, a moment as revealing as an improperly worn toga. They say every dog has its day. And for self-proclaimed "alpha dog" Rome, it was Day 17.Now out of the house, Rome talks with Parade about why he and Lyric chose to go public about their relationship, his reaction to getting locked out of the HoH room, and how he feels about Lyric voting to evict him.Related: Meet the Full Cast of Big Brother 28

Let's start with where things ended. You decided to declare your love for Lyric to the entire house on your way out the door. What led you to make such a public gesture? There was a little bit of a conversation beforehand. It was two options. Either I win the Block Buster, and she told me, "I'm gonna run into your arms and I'm gonna kiss you in front of everyone." And I told her, "And if I leave this house, I want to kiss you in front of everyone on live television before I exit one final time." So we talked about it. It was a little bit premeditated. But in that moment, it was as passionate as it could have been. Was there any worry that this could change the way people look at Lyric, considering how much you two had tried to fabricate a breakup in the days leading up to your eviction? So my thing is, I asked her beforehand. I said, "Are you sure, if we kiss in front of everyone, that doesn't mess up your game?" And she goes, "At this point, I don't care. I want to show everyone that I like you and I'm into you and everything." And I think everyone saw the reaction. Nobody in that house was surprised at the moment.People caught quite the surprised reaction from Chuk!Oh, that's just Chuk. Chuk has a flair for the dramatic at all times.Staying on Lyric, it was quite surprising to see the two of you develop feelings for each other so quickly, declaring love less than a week into the game. What was it that had you fall for each other immediately, and was there any worry about those feelings in the midst of a $750,000 game? It's so funny. At first, we get in the house, and I go, "Okay, she's beautiful, she's gorgeous, she's everything." And then I think both of us will share the same moment that happened. We ended up having the same locker next to each other to store our clothes. And she had her locker open; I had my locker open. She goes, "What if we did like one of those high school moments where you close the locker, and you act like you're into the person?" I was like, "Oh, we can reenact it." So I close her locker and I stand there. I was like, "Hey, baby, how you doing?" And then at that moment, I think both of us went, "...huh. This feels pretty good. Let's let's see if this goes any further." And from then on, it was just nonstop for both of us, just talking, liking, loving everything.Well let's get into the series of events that have you talking with me today. After Devens won HoH, you pitched to him the people you wanted to keep safe, eventually "boiling it down" to Lyric and Jason. What was the intention behind that? Were you worried that information could be used against you, as it later was?So the funny thing is, the few days before the HoH, Devens and I were outside sitting alone. He's like, "No one talks game with me. You're one of the only guys in this house that talks to me like this. I trust you. I hope you trust me. You're one of my closest allies." And I took that to heart. I really felt like he and I were having a good moment, and I thought he was a guy that, with the power of both of us, we could go really far in this game together. So my truth to him was always going to be out there. I never felt like I was going to backstab him because I trusted him fully. Now, when it came to boiling those names down, I think he kind of figured out that, if push comes to shove, those two people are the people I would back instead of him. So I think that's what he took from that conversation and thought it would best to get me out now.

To finish, let's talk about all of these "beta and submissives" left in the house. Give your rapid-fire thoughts on each of the remaining houseguests. Starting with Angela.Sneaky and controlling.Barrett.Quiet but threatening.Chuk.Loud and proud.Dee.[Pause.] Funny, cold-blooded.Devens.The man.Drew.Little brother.Haley.Snarky, but awesome.Jason.Kind and sweet.Kamu.Ball player.La Trice. The best.Lyric.The sweetest angel on Earth.Mallory.This is gonna sound weird, but "Pipe Queen." [Laughs.]Melody.Stoic.Taylor.Hilarious.And finally, Yash.My guy, Yashy! Love that guy.I'd be remiss if I didn't finish by asking about Lyric's vote to evict you. You've had a little bit of time to sit with that. How are you feeling about it now?I get it. I always told her, "You need to do what's going to be best for your game, because there's always going to be a target on me." So in that moment, I know for a fact — I shouldn't say "for a fact" because there's no "expect the unexpected" with Big Brother. I know for some degree of certainty that she did it to get herself in good graces with the other side of the house.
