ROCHESTER, N.Y. — After the Rochester Pride Festival was canceled due to severe storms, organizers are offering refunds to people who bought tickets and groups or vendors that registered a table.
In a statement on the Pride Festival’s website, organizers said they were “deeply disappointed” that they had to cancel Saturday’s festival at Highland Park and are glad that everyone made it home safely after the storms hit. Organizers also said that this year’s festival won’t be rescheduled because of how much planning went into the festival.
“Unfortunately, an event of this size cannot simply be moved to another date,” the statement says. “Rochester Pride requires months of planning and coordination to secure permits, schedule staff and volunteers, book performers, and partner with the many vendors and community organizations that bring the event to life. While we wish we could reschedule, the logistical requirements of producing an event of this scale make it impossible.
What to know about refunds
The Pride Festival will offer refunds to the small businesses and community organizations that registered tables. In addition, they’ve posted links to the websites of vendors that were supposed to sell at the festival and are encouraging the community to support them.
There will also be refunds for anyone who bought general admission or VIP tickets online. You can request a refund by following these instructions. Festival organizers are asking people to allow time for processing. However, organizers say they won’t be able to offer refunds to people who paid in cash on the day of the festival.
“Rochester Pride is run by a nonprofit organization, and proceeds are not retained after the event. Any remaining funds are reinvested into Pride grants that support educational initiatives and LGBTQ+ programming throughout the community,” the statement reads.
