Four people were in critical condition after a police chase of a stolen SUV that started on I-65 in Indiana ended in a major crash in Chicago’s Morgan Park neighborhood, with the speeding SUV sending a parked car flying before flipping over and an investigation underway.
The incident began overnight, with Chicago police officers responding to a crash near 115th Street and Longwood Drive. The crash came after the Lake County Indiana Sheriff’s Department was pursuing a stolen black SUV, police said.
As the police pursuit continued through a neighborhood, the SUV struck a parked black sedan, police said, sending the sedan onto a lawn of a home. The four people inside the SUV were transported to nearby hospitals in critical condition.
A police source told NBC Chicago the occupants of the SUV were a man, a woman, a baby and a toddler. No further details were provided.
Photos and video from the scene and the aftermath showed a large police presence in Morgan Park, with at least four ambulances and two badly damaged cars.
Tires and other car parts could be seen strewn across the road, with the SUV completely overturned.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for more information.
