ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester’s National Lacrosse League team has re-branded, and News10NBC’s Ian Mills got a chance to see the new colors in action for the first time.
The Knighthawks kicked out the old military green and gray branding for their even older purple and teal colorway. It’s a change fans have been waiting for for years.
“Yeah I was really excited, I know the fans in the community are really excited about it and as a group, we want to honor the past, but it’s still a bit different. It’s still a different group, we’re excited to go back to the old colors,” Ryland Rees, who’s been on the Knighthawks since 2019, said.
The purple and teal are the old colors for the now new look Knighthawks, and one that simply put, just looks better. So look good, play good?
“I think so, confidence is everything right? Feel good, play good, I would definitely agree,” Jensen said.
In fact, when the old Knighthawks organization wore these colors, they did play better, winning five league titles and inspiring a new generation along the way.
“I still remember sitting on my coffee table when I was however old, watching the Knighthawks play, because they were my favorite team back when I was a kid and they were wearing these colors so it’s really cool that I get to wear these colors too,” Jensen said.
With the new colors comes new turf and new jerseys, two things the public will have to wait for.
“I might’ve had a quick peek, I think they look great,” Jensen said.
The jerseys will be released in October, according to the team. The old primary ‘R’ logo will now become the team’s secondary logo. The old Knighthawks wore these colors from 1995 to 2019 before moving to Nova Scotia. This edition of the Knighthawks popped up as an expansion team in 2019 and wore those green uniforms.
