Shakira Urges More Global Support for Schools After Earthquakes: ‘Venezuela, You’re Not Alone’

“It still doesn’t feel real,” she tells Billboard. “This was one of the biggest performances in the world, and I got to be part of it, and to dance with Shakira on top of that. It all feels so surreal. I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of such a historic and unforgettable moment.”

Bedard — a professional dancer and aspiring singer from Canada, based in Los Angeles—explains that she was discovered on social media by the Colombian artist after participating in a “Dai Dai” contest with a group of dancers back in May. Bedard directed, choreographed, and edited the clip, where they’re seen dancing to the soccer anthem at the Santa Monica Pier. Just two days after posting the video, Shakira reposted them, and invited them to perform at the halftime show.

Fast forward to July 19, moments before Spain was crowned the 2026 FIFA World Cup winner, Bedard and a group of talented ladies graced the soccer field with Shakira in matching vibrant yellow and orange dresses for an energetic live performance of “Dai Dai,” alongside Burna Boy.

“I truly hope to work with Shakira and her team again: performances, collaborations, or music,” she shares. “I’m also a singer, and one of my biggest dreams is to build a career like hers, combining music, dance and performance on a global stage. I hope this opens many doors for me in both industries.”

Below, Bedard tells Billboard about her full World Cup experience.

How and when did the opportunity to perform with Shakira at the World Cup come about?

My content is all about dance, music and connecting with people. This year I’ve been creating a lot of concept videos recreating the Super Bowl halftime show, choreographing to songs like “Jet Ski.” When Shakira released “Dai Dai,” I immediately felt I needed to create something special — and at that point the contest hadn’t even been announced.

I reached out to some of my dance friends, and invited new dancers too, because I wanted to give more people opportunities through my dance community, Business of Dance. We had one rehearsal, and the very next day we filmed the video in Santa Monica. I choreographed two original sections and recreated the “Dai Dai” choreography with the group.

Two days after we filmed, Shakira announced the contest. I was thrilled because our video was already finished, we were ahead of the game. I posted it, and just two days later Shakira shared it on her Instagram Story and said she wanted us to dance with her at the World Cup final. It was absolutely unreal.

What was your initial reaction?

Ever since I first heard the song, I had a strong feeling I was somehow going to dance with Shakira. I didn’t know how, but when I saw the contest announcement, I knew that was my opportunity — and I acted on it immediately. It honestly felt like I had manifested it. For weeks, I kept telling myself I was going to dance with Shakira one day, and then it actually happened. I was so proud of myself for trusting my instincts and going all in.

How involved was Shakira during rehearsals, and what was the best piece of advice or moment that she shared with the dancers?

She was incredibly involved in every aspect of the creative process, the production, the music, the choreography, the costumes, the camera angles, every detail. It was so inspiring, because that’s exactly how I approach my own work. For my “Dai Dai” video, I directed the concept, choreographed my sections, edited it and did the music mix myself. Seeing someone at her level still so hands-on was incredibly motivating.

The biggest thing I took away is that she’s an incredibly hard worker, she’s where she is because of the dedication she puts into her craft, and she does it while having fun and treating everyone around her with kindness. That really left an impression on me.

What went through your mind before walking onto the soccer field to perform in front of millions of people? And what went through your mind after?

Before: I couldn’t believe I was about to perform in front of 82,000 people… the biggest live audience I’ve ever danced for. I was so excited to be part of such a historic moment, and so proud of myself. Ever since I filmed the video I had imagined this, and finally living it felt like being inside a dream.

After: I definitely cried. All the emotions, the hard work, the belief in what once felt like an impossible dream hit me at once. The pressure was gone, and I just felt overwhelming gratitude to myself, and to Shakira and her whole team for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
