There are only a bit more than two months total left in the regular season, so unless four weeks is enough rest (plus rehabbing from there), it’s starting to become a time crunch for Maton to return at all this season.
The 33-year-old righty was the Cubs’ first multi-year reliever signing in free agency since Craig Kimbrel, and although Maton came with a long track record of success, that just hasn’t been the case this year with the Cubs. He is under contract for next year, too, so at some point you do have to start considering how to best set him up for success in 2027.
