A 17-year-old is facing a first-degree murder charge after he was arrested in connection with the deadly shooting of a 13-year-old in late May, police announced on Friday.

The 17-year-old boy, who police did not name, was arrested on Friday by Chicago police officers and U.S. Marshals on the 3000 block of East 79th Place in Chicago, authorities said.

He is facing one felony count of first-degree murder in connection with the deadly shooting of 13-year-old Deantwan McKeever.

McKeever was shot around 2:50 p.m. on May 21 on the 8200 block of South Coles Avenue in the city’s South Chicago neighborhood, authorities said. Officers who responded to a call for service in the area found him with a gunshot wound to his head. He was then transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

He died a week later on May 28, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.

The 17-year-old will appear in court on Saturday for a detention hearing.
