You may remember him from his 50-marathon run — now Brett Sobieraski is back with an even bigger challenge ...Middle East

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A local man will run 55 miles per day, every day for the next week at area high school tracks to raise money for an organization that helps people who are struggling.

Brett Sobieraski is taking on the challenge, and extreme adventures are kind of his thing. A few years ago, he ran a marathon every single day for 50 days straight from Florida to Rochester. 8 States for Maz honored Rochester Police Officer Tony Mazurkiewicz, who was killed in the line of duty.

“It wasn’t until the last day, the 50th marathon when 800 people ran the last three miles with me, another 3 to 4 hundred were waiting to celebrate, it really brought the community together, but more importantly showed the Maz and Pierson families that we will never forget their sacrifices, it was life-changing and the amount of humanity,” Sobieraski said.

The next adventure

After some much needed rest, Sobieraski is now on to his next extreme adventure. He calls it the Community Action 400. He plans to run 400 miles in the next week.

Jennifer Lewke, News10NBC: “What made you start to even think about this?”

Brett Sobieraski: “I have terrible friends, six or seven of them that sent me an Instagram post about a young man in Australia that ran 1000 miles around a track over 12-13 days, and it was a very inspiring video for me.”

Saturday morning, just a few days after his 60th birthday, Sobieraski will start his journey.

“I will run 55 miles a day, roughly 220 laps around that track,” Sobieraski said.

Every day, he’ll be at a different local high school track. He’s running to raise money for Community Action of Orleans and Genesee and he’s hoping others will want to join him, even if it’s just for a few laps or to walk.

“What helps is the outpouring of support honestly, because there were days for ‘8 States for Maz’ when I thought muscles were going to rip from my bones, it was extremely painful, almost seemed impossible. And then the next day, you just turn it around with lots of love and prayers,” Sobieraski said.

See him run

On Tuesday, he’ll be at the East Rochester High School track. That’s where Rochester Police Officer Darryl Pierson, who was killed in the line of duty, went to school and it’s also the four-year anniversary of Officer Tony Mazurkiewicz, so there is expected to be a big police presence on that day.

Saturday, July 18th – Albion HS – 55 Miles Sunday, July 19th – Lyndonville HS – 55 Miles Monday, July 20th – Batavia HS – 55 Miles (7AM – 5PM) Tuesday, July 21st – East Rochester HS – 55 Miles (Special Remembrance Day for Fallen Officers)** Wednesday, July 22nd – Kendal HS – 55 Miles Thursday, July 23rd – Medina HS – 55 Miles Friday, July 24th – Holley HS – 55 Miles Saturday, July 25th – Albion HS (8AM-11AM) – The Grand Finale 15 Miles
