Texas Tech will now have a brand new name on its home stadium when it hosts Abilene Christian to kick off the 2026 season on Sept. 5.
According to a report on Friday afternoon by ESPN insider Pete Thamel, Texas Tech has agreed to a naming rights deal with Galaxy that will immediately re-name the Red Raiders’ football stadium Galaxy Stadium. The deal is for 15 years, starting in 2026, and it’s worth $75 million, according to Thamel’s report.
The agreement will include NIL opportunities from Galaxy for the school’s student-athletes and provide “a completely new revenue stream for Texas Tech,” according to Thamel’s report.
Texas Tech’s home stadium was renamed Jones AT&T Stadium in 2006 after SBC Communications formally switched its name to AT&T. Now, after 2 decades with that name, the stadium in Lubbock is getting a brand new name as the Red Raiders try to return to the College Football Playoff in 2026.
The stadium, whose capacity is 60,229, opened in 1947 as Jones Stadium, honoring former Texas Tech president Clifford B. Jones and wife Audrey Jones. That original stadium name stayed the same until 2000, when it was renamed Jones SBC Stadium after SBC Communications provided corporate gifts of more than $25 million.
Texas Tech now has a flashy new name for its home stadium as it tries to make a return trip to the Playoff after losing in the quarterfinals to Oregon last season.
