ALBANY, N.Y. — New York State has launched a program to help train employees in the state’s growing semiconductor manufacturing industry through tax credits.

The Empire State Development is offering tax credits that can cover up to 75% of training costs for semiconductor businesses. That includes funding for employee wages during training, curriculum development, and instructor costs.

Eligible semiconductor manufacturing businesses could get up to $5 million in credits, and other eligible businesses could get up to $1 million. To qualify, businesses must operate in the state, submit a workforce training plan, and show that they comply with worker protection and environmental requirements. The state’s announcement comes after crews poured the first concrete foundations to build Micron’s $100 billion semiconductor manufacturing campus in Central New York. As News10NBC has covered, Micron could create opportunities for people and universities in the Rochester area.
