The highly anticipated film, which hits cinemas this week on 17 July, is based on Homer’s epic poem and follows Odysseus’s decades-long journey home to Ithaca in the aftermath of the Trojan war.
The review embargo for the film lifted on Wednesday (15 July) and, at the time of writing, its score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes sits at 96 per cent based on 198 reviews – indicating an overwhelmingly positive response from critics.
Its current score makes it Nolan’s highest rated film ever on the platform, a title previously held by his 2008 superhero film The Dark Knight.
The review added: “Filled with blazing action, blood-curdling fights and creatures that truly bring Homer’s epic poem to life, this is Nolan at his finest.
"Big-screen spectacle, expertly crafted and propelled by yet another masterful score by Ludwig Göransson. A powerful and profound achievement.”
This figure would beat Oppenheimer's 181.1 million opening from 2023 and mark Nolan’s biggest non-Batman box office premiere.
