Alabama officially signs 4-star point guard who reclassified for upcoming season ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

Alabama officially has a point guard phenom from the state of New York as part of its stacked roster for the 2026-27 season.

That’s because on Tuesday morning the Crimson Tide announced that 4-star point guard Anderson Diaz has signed on for the upcoming season, joining a loaded incoming freshmen class that will try to help propel Nate Oats’ program back to the Final Four.

Oats took Alabama to its first and only Final Four in 2024, and he annually has the Crimson Tide in the mix as 1 of the top programs in the SEC and college basketball. Diaz will only help that stature starting this fall, after he recently announced that he was reclassifying from the 2027 recruiting cycle and instead starting his college basketball career in 2026.

Diaz is the No. 6 point guard in America, according to 247Sports, and ESPN has the Bronx product rated as the No. 2 player from the talent-rich state of New York. Oats is thankful to have him in the fold for next season, releasing this statement about Diaz on Tuesday:

Anderson Diaz is a very dynamic playmaker that has the ability to extend the court with his three-point range while being able to break down the defense and get paint touches at any moment of the game. With a 6’6″ wingspan, he has quick hands combined with great instincts that gives him the tools to be an elite defender. Combine that with his ability to create for others, he will be a great addition to our backcourt. We are excited to have him at Alabama.

Oats’ freshman class for the upcoming season now includes Diaz, to go along with fellow freshman prizes in Tarris Bouie, Jaxon Richardson and Qayden Samuels.

Diaz averaged 17.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists for the Cold Hearts in Overtime Elite, and in a matter of months the 6-foot-1 New York City product will be bringing his talents to the SEC and Tuscaloosa.

With Diaz joining the Crimson Tide for the upcoming season, Alabama will take another crack at getting back to the Final Four. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about Bama’s chances to get to its second Final Four in four years and be playing for a national title in 2027:
