US CentralCommand (CENTCOM) announced that its forces will impose a blockade on Iranianports and coastal areas at the direction of President Donald Trump, beginningTuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET (20:00 GMT).
A previous USblockade of Iranian ports operated from April 13 until June 18, when CENTCOMannounced its removal following a memorandum of understanding signed by Trumpand Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. That agreement provided for a 60-daycessation of hostilities and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a34-kilometer-wide passage through which roughly one-fifth of the world'sseaborne oil trade moves.
Following theannouncements, Brent crude rose by about 8 percent, reaching 81.55 dollars perbarrel.
