ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Here’s your guide to what’s happening around the Rochester area on Friday and this weekend. You can see more upcoming events in our community calendar.

RPO Under the Stars (Friday)

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra is holding a free outdoor concert on Friday night at Parcel 5 in downtown Rochester. The orchestra will play film scores and the works of American composers to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary.

The Flower City Pride Band will open the show from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Then, the RPO will take the stage at 8 p.m. There will be a brief intermission during the show, and food and drinks will be available to buy. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. You can learn more about the show here.

Corn Hill Arts Festival (Saturday and Sunday)

The 58th annual Corn Hill Arts Festival is this weekend, bringing more than 300 arts vendors, musicians across four stages, and special exhibits to the Corn Hill neighborhood.

The festival spans nine streets. Artists will sell their creations, including jewelry, paintings, photography, pottery, ceramics, sculptures, glass, clothing, and wood creations. There will also be a juried art show. You can see the full list here.

The festival will also feature Fairy Houses built by community members, an exhibit of LEGO creations built by the Rochester LEGO User Group, and bounce houses. In addition, the annual Corn Hill 5K will return on Sunday. It starts at 9 a.m. at the corner of Fitzhugh Place South and Exchange Boulevard and heads along the Genesee Riverway Trail. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. This year, a free shuttle bus will be available to take people to the festival. The shuttle will continually travel from the festival grounds to these four pick-up locations:

Sister Cities Garage, east side of N. Fitzhugh at the corner of N. Fitzhugh and Church St. South Clinton Ave., North of Woodbury Blvd. Broad Street, on the south side of the South Ave. Parking Garage Broad Street, north side, across the street from the Civic Center Garage

Geneseo Airshow (Saturday and Sunday)

The Geneseo Airshow is getting ready for takeoff. It’s happening on Saturday and Sunday at the National War Plane Museum on Big Tree Lane. This year’s event celebrates America’s 250th anniversary and will feature the historic B-17 Flying Fortress Sentimental Journey.

According to the airshow’s website, Friday is a “members only” rehearsal day. Gates open at 10:30, and the flight window is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Then, gates open to all on Saturday and Sunday starting at 8:30 a.m. The flights are from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

America 250 celebration at ESL Ballpark (Sunday)

ESL Ballpark is hosting a free celebration of America’s 250th anniversary on Sunday with live music, games, food, and fireworks to end the night. The celebration, organized by Visit Rochester and Monroe County, begins at 5 p.m.

There will be inflatable obstacle courses, climbing challenges, a silent disco, and carnival-style games at the ballpark. In addition, Roc City Circus will be there to teach people skills on their aerial rig.

The first 250 people will receive free ice cream and a poster, and the first 250 kids will get a free coloring book. You can see the full schedule for the celebration here.

Great New York State Flea at Rochester Public Market (Sunday)

The Great New York State Flea series continues on Sunday at the Rochester Public Market. People can shop for all sorts of items, including clothing, shoes, furniture, collectibles, antiques, jewelry, art, sporting goods, kitchen supplies, tools, toys, games, books, appliances, and electronics. There will also be food and drinks at the market.
