“Nice, dry conditions for both weekend days,” NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Alicia Roman said. The forecast comes after torrential rain and severe thunderstorms over the Fourth of July holiday led to dozens of canceled or postponed fireworks and events.
With sunshine in the forecast, many Chicago suburbs have already rescheduled their fireworks and celebrations to take place this weekend. Two iconic summer festivals, the Taste of Chicago and the Windy City Smokeout, will also get to take advantage of the conditions.
“Mostly sunny skies,” Roman said. “You see great conditions for Saturday that will transition into Sunday. Pretty much a dry weather pattern looks to set up by next week.”
Thursday however comes with the chance for scattered showers and storms, with gusty winds and “torrential rainfall” possible, though not everyone will see rain. The greatest chances for storms is between 2 and 10 p.m., the National Weather Service said.
Thursday will also be slightly sticker, with more humidity and temperatures in the mid-to-upper 80s. Temperatures will remain in the 80s through Sunday.
By Monday, temperatures will be near 90, Roman said, with another stretch of 90-degree readings possible through midweek.
Most of Friday looks to stay dry, but clouds will linger and some isolated showers could form in counties to the far south and in northwest Indiana.
Both Saturday and Sunday will be sunny, dry and clear, Roman said, making for a “nice little redo of the weekend.”
Temperatures will also gradually increase over the weekend, reaching the mid-80s by Sunday and nearing 90 by Monday.
