ROCHESTER, N.Y. — “Shakespeare in the Park” is returning to Rochester’s Highland Park this summer.
News10NBC stopped by the dress rehearsal at the Highland Bowl to learn what the Rochester Community Players have planned for this year. This year’s production is William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” but with a modern twist.
This version of the play is set in 2015, where technology and relationship roles are quite different than in Shakespeare’s time.
“I think that it just makes it more accessible for people. People are always a little afraid of Shakespeare because of the heightened language. But, adding in social media and technology, I feel like people will connect with that a little bit more,” said Jaimee Schelkun, who plays Bianca.
Plays start at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Highland Bowl. They perform five nights a week through July 25, plus a deaf-friendly show on July 18.
Attendance is free. Just make sure to bring a picnic blanket or some chairs.
