Helen Nixon, age 92, of Smithville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at NHC in Smithville. Born on March 15, 1934, in Carthage, she was a longtime homemaker who took great pride in her work. Helen was a faithful member of the Smithville Church of God and a devoted granny to her beloved grandchildren.
Visitation with the Nixon family will be on Saturday from 12:00 to 7:00 pm and on Sunday from 10:00 am until service time at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Donnie Kelly, Bro. Chris Moore and Bro. Jeremy Poole will officiate and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Auburn Nixon, her parents, Johnnie and Mattie Ola Slager and 3 brothers, James, Billy and Roy Slager. Helen is survived by her two sons, Ricky (Jennifer) Nixon and Timmy (Lisa) Nixon, all of Smithville. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Jenna (Tim) Reynolds, Nathan (Jessica) Nixon, all of Smithville, and Lynsey (Nathan) Smith of Dunlap, as well as five great-grandchildren, Dallas Reynolds, Levi Nixon, Addelyn Kate Nixon, Denton Nixon, all of Smithville, and Maisie Smith of Dunlap. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Doyle (Gail) Slager of Smithville.
In addition to flowers donations can be made to Lighthouse Christian Camp.
