Data includes replicas of landmarks, infrastructure, master plans, buildings and residential units, with 1,500 geospatial data layers and over 100 two and three-dimensional applications across multiple sectors.
The models will be used in urban planning for quality of life improvements, sustainability and future proofing. A workshop showcasing the project included examples of practical applications in infrastructure management, rainfall simulation and digital solutions to possible future events.
The digital twin was created by local government with private sector partners. Dubai’s municipality has signed a memorandum of understanding with conglomerate Al-Futtaim Group and China’s Huawei for the next phase of the project, which involves expanding the use of the programme across urban planning, infrastructure, operations and asset management.
Marwan Ahmed Bin Ghalita, Dubai Municipality’s director general, said: “(The project) embodies the leadership’s vision of leveraging advanced technologies and data to enhance government services, improve the efficiency of asset and infrastructure management and elevate quality of life.”
Eng. Maryam Al Muhairi, Dubai Municipality’s chief executive of buildings regulation and permits agency, said: “The Digital Twin provides a comprehensive digital environment that unifies spatial and operational data within a single platform, enabling the simulation and analysis of future scenarios and supporting more efficient decision-making.
“The next phase will focus on expanding integration with partners and maximising the use of data to support vital sectors across the emirate.”
