The 2027 Chicago mayoral election may still be months away, but the field of candidates is already getting crowded after another campaign announcement Tuesday.
As is the case with most municipal elections in Illinois, Chicago’s municipal elections take place in off-years from statewide and national races.
The city also uses a run-off system, meaning there aren’t Democratic and Republican-specific primaries. Instead, all candidates run in the initial race, and then the top-two vote-getters face-off in a run-off election if no candidate receives 50% or more of the vote in the first round.
As the citywide elections approach, here’s who has announced their candidacy for Chicago mayor so far.
